Unique to its statistic breaking growth, Laredo's hospitality industry recorded several new hotel openings over the last three years that have transformed the destination. The city now boasts more hotel rooms than ever. The community of Laredo is a 2007 All America City finalist and patriotic community spirit is derived from the internationally acclaimed Washington's Birthday Celebration. Recently recognized by the International Festivals and Events Association, it offers a variety of events, from fireworks, pageantry, and jalapeños galore, to street parties with Jamboozies and more. Founded in 1898, the WBCA is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States with approximately 400,000 attendees annually.

Recognized as a best practice program by Sister Cities International four consecutive years, the International Sister Cities Festival is held annually in late January at the Laredo Civic Center. The three-day event has featured free admission and the wares, products and cultural offerings of its Sisters from across the nations of Mexico, Spain, Australia, Argentina, China and Taiwan.

One of Laredo's many winning attractions is Mall Del Norte recently renovated and sporting a new look. Located in the Mall is the Imaginarium of South Texas, a special children's museum looking to capture its audience through playful and educational exhibits. Another unique experience can be found at the Lamar - Bruni - Vergara Planetarium, housed in a crystalline tetrahedron - shaped structure, is an exciting attraction for budding scientists and Digistar projection enthusiasts.

Another must see is the Laredo Entertainment Center, a 10,000 seat multi-purpose arena that is home to the two time title holder Central Hockey League championship Laredo Bucks! On the field, the United Soccer League/Professional Development League Championship title holder Laredo Heat Soccer Club kicks up the action at the Student Activity Complex throughout the summer.
