February 7-10, 2008 - EXHIBIT - Odessa: Midessa Boat, RV, Sport & Gun Show. Boats, gun show, RVs, 5th Wheels, motorhomes, watercraft, give-aways, win free fishing trip, free resort stays, cash, booths representing resorts, fishing guides, camping equipment, etc. Used RVs, boats, ATVs and Watercraft. March 5-8, 2008 - FESTIVAL - EL Paso: Siglo De Oro Drama Festival. Annual festival that celebrates the literature and linguistic ties still shared by Spain and the border region of Mexico and the United States. The festival brings the best amateur and professional groups to the Chamizal stage, presenting works of the Spanish masters, both in English and Spanish. Participants come from as far away as Puerto Rico, Spain and Jerusalem. Location: Chamizal National Memorial Theatre, 800 S. San Marcial, El Paso. Region: Texas Big Bend Country. April 23-26, 2008 - SPORTING EVENT - Fort Stockton/Sanderson: Big Bend Open Road Race. An action packed day (Saturday) of racing fun. This type of open road racing attracts racers and enthusiasts from all over the U.S. The event includes all types of cars from street legal to highly modified cars to Nascars. Anyone can enter. Speed categories from 85 mph to Unlimited (over 200 mph). Time: 8am-10pm. Cost: Free to attend, Fee to enter. Volunteers needed! Call for more information. April 26, 2008 - OTHER EVENT - El Paso: Annual Thanksgiving Conference & Celebration. On April 30, 1598, A Spanish conquistador, Don Juan De Onate, arrives at the Rio Grande somewhere between present day Socrro & San Elizario, TX. A Mass of Thanksgiving is celebrated, followed by a communal feast. "The Importance of the Native American Contribution to the Spanish Explorer," "The Role of the Salt War in the development of the Hispanic Community," Historical re-enactments, gunfights, native American arts & crafts, food booths. Time: approx. 8am-4pm. Cost: none. Location: 20 miles SE OF downtown El Paso, along the Mission Trail, 1521 San Elizario Rd. Region: Texas Big Bend Country. Average attendance: under 50,000. May 3-4, 2008 - SPORTING EVENT - Del Rio: 31st Annual George Paul Memorial Bull Riding Competition. Non-stop action and live entertainment make this event a must-see. The first stand-alone bull riding in the country, it honors George Paul, World Champion Bull Rider 1968. Paul rode 79 bulls consecutively without being thrown, a record, which stands unbroken. Known as the "Academy Awards of Bull Riding", with top ranked bulls, bull riders, and rodeo bullfighters, it's pure excitement from start to finish. Del Rio & Ciudad Acuna attractions add more fun. July 4, 2008 - FESTIVAL - Odessa: Firecracker Fandango and Independence Day Parade. Independence Day festivities with a parade, games, food and family fun, culminating in the biggest aerial fireworks display in West Texas. Time: Parade starts 10am, Fandango 6pm-midnight.
